Stomatológ 2022, 32(2):6-9 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2022.008

Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) is becoming more and more frequent in the fabrication of dentures. This introduces a new era in removable prosthodontics. CAD/CAM systems for digital dentures are being developed with the promise of eliminating the challenges and errors of traditionally fabricated dentures. The purpose of this article is the presentation of the step-by-step procedure of manufacturing a digital denture and to summarize its features comparing to a denture fabricated conventionally.

Stomatológ 2022, 32(2):10-12 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2022.009

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to provide the latest and comprehensive knowledge about soft relining materials in general. It should highlight the indications and properties of these materials from a clinical as well as a technical standpoint. METHODS: Within a comparative study, three permanent soft relining materials of three different manufacturers were employed. These materials were added to conventional resin base plates and observed over a period of 70 days, while being stored in water bath. The changes in shore hardness A, and in the overall weight were tracked over a period of 70 days, measuring every 14 days. Finally, a discoloration...

Herpes zoster (shingles) is an acute infectious disease caused by the reactivation of a latent virus persisting in sensory nerve ganglia. The infection is usually manifested by a typical clinical picture with unilateral herpetiform vesicles in the corresponding dermatome and is accompanied by pain. In the oral cavity, the palate and tongue are most often affected. The trigger for the reactivation of a latent infection is most often the weakening of the organism associated with immunosuppression. The most common complication of shingles is persistent pain that even lasts several months after the acute stage has passed. The treatment is aimed not only...

According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some forms of oral caries diseases at the age of 3 (2). In addition to the direct consequences of dental disease, i.e. halitosis, shedding teeth, periodontal disease, poor oral health plays a major role in the overall animal health by causing or deterioration of many other diseases such as those of kidneys and heart what leads to unnecessary suffering for millions of pets. Microorganisms in the oral cavity of animals affect their oral and overall health. Transmission of harmful bacteria from animal causes the emergence of various local and general diseases in humans....

The material presents a 7-year retrospective study of 510 patients hospitalised at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Comenius University, University Hospital Bratislava in the period of 2015 and 2021. The statistical analysis reviewed the following data: cause and location of the process, CRP and leukocyte count, and length of hospitalisation. In all the numerical parameters (CRP, leukocytes, hospitalization length), highest values were found in the odontogenic pre-extraction group - failed primary treatment, non-extraction of a tooth prior to referring the patient to a specialised department.

Stomatológ 2022, 32(2):26-30 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2022.013

Periodontal diseases are a current problem in dentistry. After tooth decay, they are the second most common cause of tooth loss. In recent years, the number of teeth affected by the so-called periodontopathy has significantly exceeded the number of teeth lost due to other causes. Analysis of oral microbiota can improve understanding of oral pathological changes and earlier treatment. Within our work, we carried out an analysis to identify specific paropathogenic bacteria that, according to the literature, are associated with the development of periodontitis. Out of a total of 220 examined samples, we identified the presence of bacteria of pathogenicity...

The global Covid-19 pandemic has affected orthodontic practices and limited regular check-ups in dispensaries that are essential for a successful orthodontic treatment. Many orthodontists have been therefore forced to switch to some form of telemedicine. In orthodontic practice DentaDerm we decided to respond promptly to the situation. We were the first in Slovakia to start using the app Dental Monitoring for regular evaluation of treatment progress. Using a smart device, our patients were able to send us scans of their teeth regularly. They hich were first evaluated by artificial intelligence and then by an orthodontist. We have decided to analyse...
