Reinfection of periodontal tissues is always a serious problem for the patient. In the paper, we describe the state of health of the reduced periodontium in a stable patient with a history of periodontitis. This condition can be very fragile and transient in some individuals, especially if the patient would not receive ongoing health care in the form of supportive periodontal therapy. Therefore, we try to prevent and limit reinfection of the periodontium during scheduled recalls by individually appointed visits. An absolute collaboration on the patient's side is essential for these procedures. The aim of this scientific article is to describe the importance of supportive periodontal therapy in patients with periodontitis and to propose procedures for maintaining the state of long-term periodontal health in such patients.
