Introduction: The study was to point out the frequency of the use of amalgam in Slovak dental practices, as one of the oldest and most controversial filling material, also in relation to the reduction of amalgam use according the regulations of the European Commission. The aim was also point out the most common amalgam alternatives used among Slovak dentists. Methods: 475 Slovak dentists were as approached with a questionnaire. They were divided into three groups according to age. They answered eight questions with multiple choice. The results were summarized in charts. Results: 3 % of Slovak dentists use exclusively amalgam filling in distal teeth,...
Diabetes mellitus as a risk factor in a patient with periodontitis
Tomáš Siebert, Barbora Stenchláková
Stomatológ 2022, 32(1):11-15 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2022.003
Periodontal health should be defined as a state free from inflammatory periodontal disease that allows an individual to function normally and not suffer any consequences (mental or physical) as a result of past disease. Tissues located in the vicinity of implants, known as peri-implantation tissues, have specific and in many ways similar anatomy. The elaborate protocol of preventive measures to ensure periodontal health is extremely important. There is compelling evidence that motivational interviewing frequently leads to more favourable clinical responses than conventional preventive tools. The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive view...
Necrotising periodontal diseases

Stomatológ 2022, 32(1):17-21 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2022.004
Necrotising periodontal diseases are an acute condition in dentistry. In our study, we hioghlight diagnostic diagnostic algorhitm, treatment of this acute condition, further dental care and interdisciplinary cooperation. Diagnostics is based on particular anamnesis, clinical examination of periodontal tissues, typical clinical signs of this condition and X-ray examination. Then, individual treatment plan is created according to actual medical knowledge founded on evidence - based medicine. After debridement of necrotic tissue, removal of supragingival and subgingival calculus and plaque deposits in local anaesthesia, motivation and home dental care...
Rhombic transposition flaps in reconstruction of cutaneous facial defects
Peter Kizek, Branislav Borza, Vladimíra Schwartzová
Stomatológ 2022, 32(1):22-24 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2022.005
The authors present the possibilities of reconstruction of facial skin defects using the rhombic transposition flaps. The review summarizes current knowledge about the types, modifications and surgical techniques of various flaps. The theoretical part is supplemented by an analysis of a group of 16 patients, based on which the authors recommend the classical Limberg type of rhombic transposition flap.

Insufficient bone volume supply is often an obstacle to implant treatment in the distal parts of alveolar ridge of lower jaw. One of the alternatives is the use of blade implants. The first part of this experimental study was dedicated to the analysis of the transfer of masticatory forces to the surface of a certified commercially available blade implant using FEM (Finite Element Method) and adjacent bone. The results showed undesirable generation of stress on the implant body and in the bone, and prompted optimization of its shape. The second part of the study focuses on the analysis of the stress distribution of the shape-optimized free-standing...

Treatment of dental injuries in children is one of the frequent procedures performed in dental practice. The upper incisors, which are most often affected by injury, can traumatize the surrounding soft tissues. Particular attention should be paid to dental injuries associated with soft tissue lacerations. Crown fragments can be dislocated in these tissues as a result of injury. If not removed, they may impede wound healing. The authors present the case of a 12-year-old boy with a complicated horizontal fracture of the crown of the tooth No. 21, with dislocating of the tooth fragment into the tissues of the lower lip and reattachement, which represents,...
