Necrotising periodontal diseases are an acute condition in dentistry. In our study, we hioghlight diagnostic diagnostic algorhitm, treatment of this acute condition, further dental care and interdisciplinary cooperation. Diagnostics is based on particular anamnesis, clinical examination of periodontal tissues, typical clinical signs of this condition and X-ray examination. Then, individual treatment plan is created according to actual medical knowledge founded on evidence - based medicine. After debridement of necrotic tissue, removal of supragingival and subgingival calculus and plaque deposits in local anaesthesia, motivation and home dental care instruction, systemic antibiotic treatment is indicated in specific cases. The aim of this article was to describe necrotic gingivitis as an acute case in periodontology, its history and complications that can be manifested on the periodontium. We describe the importance of supportive periodontal therapy in such patients and propose procedures for maintaining long-term periodontal health.
