Periodontal diseases are a current problem in dentistry. After tooth decay, they are the second most common cause of tooth loss. In recent years, the number of teeth affected by the so-called periodontopathy has significantly exceeded the number of teeth lost due to other causes. Analysis of oral microbiota can improve understanding of oral pathological changes and earlier treatment. Within our work, we carried out an analysis to identify specific paropathogenic bacteria that, according to the literature, are associated with the development of periodontitis. Out of a total of 220 examined samples, we identified the presence of bacteria of pathogenicity complexes 3 and 4 in up to 89% of the samples. That empirically supports the application of the aforementioned methodological approaches in modern diagnosis of periodontitis. A patient whose DNA analysis detects the presence of paropathogens will be included in the group of patients at risk for periodontitis with more frequent check-ups in the dental clinic.
