- I. stomatologická klinika LF UPJŠ a UNLP, Košice
Introduction and aim of the work: Precancerous conditions of mucous membranes of oral cavity present a significant problem in early diagnosis and treatment within oral medicine. The study was to examine a larger set of randomly selected patients and determine the occurrence of forms of precancerous conditions.
Material and methodology: The authors examined a set of 2,139 randomly selected patients aged 35+, of whom 1,234 were women and 905 men. Age groups were selected according to WHO recommendations. The authors monitored the presence and incidence of preleukoplakia, homogene and macular leukoplakia, erythroplakia, nicotinic stomatitis, Olp and benign tumours. The findings were recorded in taylor-made investigative records. The results were statistically processed using the T-test for paired values.
Results: The analysis showed that preleukoplakia occurred in 0.7 % of patients, homogeneous leukoplakia in 0.5%, spotted leukoplakia in 0.1 %, erytroplakia in 0 %, stomatitis nicotinica in 1.6 %, lichen planus in 0.5 % and benign tumours in 0.4 %.
