With the knowledge of current adhesive systems, indirect adhesive restorations are an adequate alternative to crowns in terms of sparing hard tooth tissues and preserving them as a cornerstone for future prosthetic restorations. They are also an alternative to extensive restorations where, in terms of adhesion and polymerization contraction, C-factor, and V-factor, they are a more appropriate restorative therapy.

This study aims to evaluate the success rate of adhesive therapy with indirect restorations after 3 and 5 years, respectively, and to analyze failed therapy cases.

Methods: Indirect adhesive restorations (256) in the distal dentition were evaluated using a chairside CAD/CAM system. Molars (199) and premolars (57) were treated this way. The total deliveries group consisted of 7 endocrowns, 16 inlays, 70 overlays, and 163 onlays. The percentage of failures for the years 2017-2020 was evaluated. Subsequently, the percentage representation of the causes of failure, namely debonding, rupture of the restoration material, and breakage of the retained cusp, was assessed. The data obtained were evaluated using descriptive statistics.

Results: The number of failed replacements for 2017-2020 is 10, which is 3.9%. The causes of failure were rupture of the restoration material in 20% of the cases, breakage of the retained cusp in 40%, and debonding of the indirect restoration in 40% of the cases. The success rate of restorations evaluated at three years and five years after fabrication of the restoration is 96%.
