In the paper we deal with the presence of white areas on the mucous membranes of the oral cavity. White lesions are considered to be a symptom indicating or predicting the occurrence of a significantly more serious disease - carcinoma, rather than a disease itself. Systematic classification of white lesions in the oral cavity is based on available scientific literature and structured in such a way that it can also be effectively applied in clinical practice. This paper deals with the most frequent white lesions (of precancerous nature) of the oral mucosa.
