In the present study, the authors deal with the importance of cooperation of the patient in the treatment of periodontal diseases, particularly in the case of chronic generalized periodontitis. A diagnosis of chronic periodontitis was established, based on the medical history, clinical examination of dental and periodontal condition, and X-ray examination. After developing a treatment plan, the therapy proceeded according to the "evidence based dentistry". The patient was repeatedly motivated to improve his oral hygiene as part of treatment, but we did not establish a permanent colaboration. During a re-call, some clinical signs of periodontitis temporarily improved, but due to lack of effort and interest, the disease was not stabilized and the clinical picture did not change significantly compared to the first visit. In this example, it can be demonstrated that chronic periodontitis cannot be stabilized without patient's cooperation despite professionally provided periodontal treatment.
