The development of dental adhesive materials has recently been very significant. There is a justified requirement of clinical dentists to have reliable adhesive materials that ensure quality interconnection of different material surfaces during dental treatment. The introduction of functional monomers such as 10-methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP) is considered to be very effective and one of the most common functional monomers with the ability to bind to metal oxides as well as hard dental tissues. The long-term stability of the bond between 10-MDP and various other materials is still the subject of the research. The bonding mechanism...

Introduction: The aim of the study was to determine the effect of deep mechanical tongue cleaning with a TS1 Tongue Scraper. Methods: The examined cohort consisted of 288 patients, 180 women and 108 men, who were tested to detect the pathological microbial flora of the tongue. Pathological changes were observed in 76 men and 108 women. Then, patients with a positive finding were recommended to use a TS1 scraper. During second sitting, the surface of patient's tongue was cleaned with the TS1, and another swab was taken without contamination. Ten days later, the third swab was taken to detect possible changes of the microbial flora. Results: 36 patients...

Stomatológ 2020, 30(1):15-17 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.003
Introduction: Generally, incidence of missed teeth (Hypodontia) is not unusual. Hypodontia is often caused by familial reasons, and can also be associated with genetic disorders such as ectodermal dysplasia, Down syndrome or cleft lip and palate. Exclusive missing of both maxillary canines is an extremely rare occurrence and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. Case report: A 33 year old male patient, suffering from mild form of Behçet's disease and no other medical problems. The patient complained from a cosmetic problem which is dissatisfaction of his smile because of missing both upper permanent canines and still has small deciduous...

Stomatológ 2020, 30(1):18-23 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.004
The authors deal with the importance of a comprehensive approach in the treatment of generalized chronic periodontitis in a patient with diabetes mellitus. The diagnosis of chronic periodontitis was made on the basis of patient's history, clinical examination of the condition of the teeth and periodontium, and an X-ray examination. After developing a treatment plan for the patient, the individual therapeutic steps were gradually performed according to the evidence-based dentistry of the current state and knowledge in periodontology. After deep scaling and root planing, the patient underwent systemic antibiotic therapy. During the recall, the clinical...
Treatment of a non-cooperating patient with chronic generalized periodontitis (Case report)
Barbora Stenchláková, Tomáš Siebert
Stomatológ 2020, 30(1):24-29 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.005
In the present study, the authors deal with the importance of cooperation of the patient in the treatment of periodontal diseases, particularly in the case of chronic generalized periodontitis. A diagnosis of chronic periodontitis was established, based on the medical history, clinical examination of dental and periodontal condition, and X-ray examination. After developing a treatment plan, the therapy proceeded according to the "evidence based dentistry". The patient was repeatedly motivated to improve his oral hygiene as part of treatment, but we did not establish a permanent colaboration. During a re-call, some clinical signs of periodontitis temporarily...
Root tip resection and root canal filling
Peter Plachý, Marek Matajs
Stomatológ 2020, 30(1):30-34 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.006
The authors state that even a resected root should have a perfect filling, which ensures a good closure of the edges and thus prevents the penetration of infection from the root into the periapical area and vice versa. Preferred is root filling done under visual control during operation. During the operation, the root canal gets completely widened, cleaned, dried; the filling material is put, and a possibly thickest gutta-percha pin is inserted into the canal. This ensures perfect tightness of the filling. It is advisable to fill the root canal during the operation even in a case when the tooth does not tolerate the cap. This is the so-called surgery-assisted...

Stomatológ 2020, 30(1):35-42 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.007
Prosthetic rehabilitation of edentulous patients with extensive alveolar ridge atrophy is considered to be one of the most challenging prosthodontics treatments. With increasing age of the population and increasing number of elderly patients, there are high demands on quality and functionality of dental prosthodontics. Along with standard dental implants options, also alternative and cost effective treatments are required. These include the treatment of atrophied jaws with removable dentures anchored by means of dental mini-implants. The technique of inserting mini-implants as well as the procedure for subsequent production of an overdenture have been...

Stomatológ 2020, 30(1):43-50 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.008
Chronic ulcerations of the oral mucosa are still a diagnostic challenge. These lesions can be a manifestation of various diseases. Some infectious diseases have a quite typical disease course and do not present a major diagnostic problem. However, autoimmune and skin diseases occur in a more severe way, especially if symptoms do not appear on other parts of the body. These lesions often change and are accompanied by newly erupted erosions. Concerning the diagnosis and also local treatment of oral manifestations, it is appropriate to cooperate with a specialist in comprehensive diseases with manifestations in the oral cavity.
Kawasaki syndrome (Review article)
Jana Kluknavská, Eugen Ďurovič, Silvia Timková
Stomatológ 2020, 30(1):51-54 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.009
In the present review article, the authors describe the basic characteristics of Kawasaki syndrome and possible manifestations in the oral cavity. It is one of the most common causes of acquired heart diseases in children. An incomplete presentation of syndrome develops more often and the diagnosis is more demanding than in a typical form with clearly defined diagnostic criteria. To reduce the risk of permanent sequelae of the disease, it is necessary to know the clinical manifestations to provide early diagnosis and treatment. In the case of oral manifestations, a supportive care is usually required and the symptoms gradually subside after the start...
