Chronic ulcerations of the oral mucosa are still a diagnostic challenge. These lesions can be a manifestation of various diseases. Some infectious diseases have a quite typical disease course and do not present a major diagnostic problem. However, autoimmune and skin diseases occur in a more severe way, especially if symptoms do not appear on other parts of the body. These lesions often change and are accompanied by newly erupted erosions. Concerning the diagnosis and also local treatment of oral manifestations, it is appropriate to cooperate with a specialist in comprehensive diseases with manifestations in the oral cavity.
