Complications during root canal irrigation
- Klinika stomatológie a maxilofaciálnej chirurgie UPJŠ LF a Akadémia Košice, n. o., Bačíkova 7, Košice
Due to the complexity of the root canal system, mechanical preparation itself is not sufficient. Therefore, rinsing the root canal system with irrigating solutions is an inseparable phase of endodontic treatment. Although irrigating solutions are generally considered safe, complications may occur during their use or as a result of their effect. The most common incident is damage to the patient's clothing, eyes, skin and contact allergic reactions are also common. Apical extrusion of the irrigating solution and air emphysema are also relatively common complications. The authors give a brief overview of currently used irrigating solutions, describe possible complications that a dentist may experience during endodontic therapy, and focus on the possibilities of their prevention and treatment.
