Shear bond strength of orthodontic buccal tubes bonded to third molar enamel and surface-treated composite restorations

The aim of this study was to compare the adhesive bond strength of orthodontic buccal tubes bonded to third molar enamel, composite restorations, and mechanically treated composite surfaces. Sixty extracted teeth were divided into three groups (n = 20), and bond strength was determined via pressure test. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a significance level of α = 0.05. The highest bond strength values were recorded for mechanically roughened composite surfaces treated with a diamond bur; however, no statistically significant differences were found among the evaluated groups. Despite the lack of statistical significance, mechanically treated composite exhibited a trend toward higher bond strength, indicating a beneficial effect of micromechanical retention and supporting its clinical applicability for orthodontic buccal tube bonding
