The clinical success and longevity of intraosseous dental implants as abutments are largely controlled by the mechanical setting in which they function. The treatment plan is responsible for the design, number and position of the implants. In a biomechanically compromised environment such as poor bone, alveolar bone stress can be reduced by increasing the anteroposterior spread of the implants, placing longer implants, and maximizing the number of implants. The All-on-4 concept is one such treatment that is intended for use in completely edentulous patients. At the same time, it eliminates the routine alternative of treatment with conventional dentures....
The success rate of indirect adhesive restorations in the distal dentition fabricated with chairside CAD/CAM system

With the knowledge of current adhesive systems, indirect adhesive restorations are an adequate alternative to crowns in terms of sparing hard tooth tissues and preserving them as a cornerstone for future prosthetic restorations. They are also an alternative to extensive restorations where, in terms of adhesion and polymerization contraction, C-factor, and V-factor, they are a more appropriate restorative therapy. This study aims to evaluate the success rate of adhesive therapy with indirect restorations after 3 and 5 years, respectively, and to analyze failed therapy cases. Methods Indirect adhesive restorations (256) in the distal dentition were evaluated...
Association between tooth loss and disturbance of cognitive functions including dementia and Alzheimer disease. Review
Michal Straka, Peter Džupa, Marek Šupler
Stomatológ 2023, 33(2):15-22 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2023.011
In this extensive and comprehensive literature review, the authors focus on tooth loss with loss of occlusion and masticatory function and its impact on cognitive functions, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. Currently, epidemiological studies have confirmed positive correlations between premature tooth loss and masticatory function with significant cognitive declines monitored through learning disabilities, including overcoming common life problems to early and advanced forms of dementia. Reducing the number of teeth, especially in the molar region, is considered to be a possible predictive factor of cognitive disorders. In addition to the epidemiological...
Treatment of a patient with impacted canine using splint aligners
Simona Dianišková, Adam Michelčík
Stomatológ 2023, 33(2):23-26 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2023.012
Thanks to technological advances and improved procedures in the field of artificial intelligence and 3D printing, treatment with aligners is becoming more and more popular. Treatment of patients with impacted canines remains a challenge. The aim of this article is to point out possible procedures for traction of impacted canine tooth in the dental arch.

Homeless people suffer from many general disorders, but also from dental problems. People experiencing homelessness in Bratislave appeare around three thousands recently. During project "Mobile Ambulance Station" running within years 2012 - 2018 there were treated altogether 319 patients (men n=241, 75,5 %; women n=78, 24,5 %), mean age 43.3 yrs. More than 80 % of the procedures included extractions of teeth (n=363, the most extracted right lower second molar). Dental caries and its sequels prevailed within indications, in summary 84 % (58 % mechanical irritation by dental root, 20 % pulpitis, 6 % acute apical periodontitis). The second followed marginal...
