Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):3-7 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.011
The attached gingiva is an important anatomical structure of the periodontium. It is a continuation of the marginal gingiva and extends to the mucogingival border. It is formed by keratinized epithelium and is attached to the bone base. The aim of this paper is to draw attention to the importance of the attached gingiva from the anatomical, functional, aesthetic viewpoints, while revealing its importance from the point of view of maintaining periodontal health.

Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):8-13 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.012
The authors present an overview of disease states as consequences of physical activity that may occur in our practical activities. The most common consequence of a brachial act of physical violence, but also of falls, is a lip injury. In addition to the types of injuries that require surgical treatment, there is also contusion of the lips. It is manifested by a significant oedema, which begins to subside over time and desquamation of the superficial epithelium occurs. However, lip erosions are more common. They heal with a scab, which peels off gradually with epithelialization. Erosions leave no scars.

Blade implants (BI), although to a limited extent, find application in the implantation procedures of significantly resorbed alveolar ridge in distal sections of the mandible. They are used in situations where the use of enosseal cylindrical implants has reached the limits of application possibilities and the application of osteotomy or augmentation procedures does not bring any long-term prognostic success. The clinical part of the paper deals with a rational application technique of blade implants. In the experimental part, using FEM analysis, the authors evaluate the influence of masticatory forces on the body of the blade implant and the surrounding...

Jana Kluknavská, Silvia Timková, Jozef Minčík, Eugen Ďurovič
Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):26-29 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.014
In this review article, the authors describe basic characteristics of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. They describe ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease and provide available data on definition, clinical picture, etiopathogenesis, disease progression and frequent complications. In Crohn's disease, the authors discuss in detail oral lesions, which are divided into specific, non-specific, lesions caused by malnutrition and complication-induced lesions. Specific lesions are: squamous stiffness of the mucosa in the vestibulum oris, the formation of granulomatous lesions on the gingiva and lips, swellings of the attached gingiva as well as the mucous...

Simona Dianišková, Eva Zámečníková, Gabriela Alexandrová
Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):30-34 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.015
Midline diastema is a handicap for most people but in recent years it has become a fashion trend in show business. This paper evaluates the effect of diastemas of various widths on the degree of smile attractiveness perceived by the public and determines whether this evaluation differs in modified photographs of a detailed smile and the whole face. The survey was conducted in a form of an anonymous questionnaire.
Stomach and duodenal ulcer disease
Jana Kluknavská, Silvia Timková, Jozef Minčík
Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):35-38 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.016
The authors describe the basic clinical characteristics of gastric and duodenal ulcer disease. They state that these diseases occur quite often in medical practice. Patients come to dental surgeries with requirements that usually do not concern these disease conditions. It is now known that about two thirds of the diseases are caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. In the oral cavity, we can observe minor aphthous stomatitis and glossitis areata migrans with slight formation of erosions. However, these lesions do not occur in every ulcer disease and therefore do not have a reliable diagnostic value. Analogous observations can also be applied to duodenal...

Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):39-44 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.017
Numerous dental cements were introduced in the dental field over the past few years. However, in spite of the variety of their composition and technique of application, none of them is universal [27, 11]. Thus, a proper selection of a cement based on the case requirements and on prosthodontist experience is a must to guarantee a successful enduring restoration. The purpose of this article is to guide the dentists through the decision-making process to select suitable cement along with its manipulation technique in tooth-supported cases.
Local gingival enlargements
Jozef Minčík, Silvia Timková, Jana Kluknavská, Eugen Ďurovič
Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):45-52 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.018
The authors deal with local enlargements of the gingiva. In order to avoid misunderstandings in practice, they present a classification of gum enlargements in their original tabular forms. The paper chronologically describes specific characteristics of particular diseases together with relevant images taken by the authors or by the cited authors and determined for further education via books and journals.

Stomatológ 2020, 30(2):53-60 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2020.019
In the second part of the review paper, the authors describe the oral lichen planus (OLP) on the oral mucous membranes. They deal with a classification of this disease, which was introduced for dermatological practice first. The paper describes the clinical picture of OLP, first, on the skin, second, on the skin and oral mucosa, and, finally, on the oral mucosa in isolation. In this part of the study, theoretical and clinical experience is documented by illustrations of the authors.
