Silvia Timková, Jozef Minčík, Ján Vodráľka, Marcel Riznič, Eugen Ďurovič, Andrea Konečná

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):8-15 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.014

In the second part of the review paper, the authors describe the oral lichen planus (OLP) on the oral mucous membranes. They deal with a classification of this disease, which was introduced for dermatological practice first. The paper describes the clinical picture of OLP, first, on the skin, second, on the skin and oral mucosa, and, finally, on the oral mucosa in isolation. In this part of the study, theoretical and clinical experience is documented by illustrations of the authors.

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):16-20 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.015

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis may occur randomly or as a part of various syndromes. It can be transmitted as an autosomal, dominant, or recessive illness. It is a state, in which the gingiva is enlarged. Hereditary gingival fibromatosis can affect only certain parts of the maxilla and mandible, or it can be located throughout the whole arch of the maxilla and mandible. Consequently, it causes difficulties with eating and articulation; mouth breathing is also common. Treatment is predominantly surgical; however, cooperation with specialists is necessary due to the possible presence of other syndromes. Regular follow-up examinations of these patients...

Traumatic occlusion caused by deep bite

Christos Kolettis, Rastislav Edelstein, Michaela Zemanková

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):21-24 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.016

Traumatic occlusion is defined as an injury resulting in tissue changes as a result of occlusal forces. Can be classified as primary and secondary occlusal trauma. There are many factors involved in etiology of occlusal trauma in periodontology. In establishing the diagnosis there are clinical and radiographic methods. Treatment can be done by occlusal adjustment, management of parafunctional habits, splinting, occlusal reconstruction, extraction and orthodontic tooth movement. This clinical report describes the patient with traumatic occlusion due to deep bite. As a result chronic pain during mastication, increased mobility and fremitus were seen....

This clinical report describes the patient with traumatic occlusion after placement of a metal ceramic crown. As a result, increased mobility and fremitus were seen. Patient...

Is the apicoectomy still topical today?

Peter Plachý, Roman Pecháň, Adam Stebel

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):30-34 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.018

The authors state apicoectomy should not be excluded from the dentoalveolar surgery repertoire. Its indication is, however, very dependent on perfect endodontic treatment of the tooth root. As the endodontic techniques of root therapy improve, the indications for root resection diminish. Especially, the resection of single-root teeth should be a thing of the past, or very rarely performed. The main indications for root tip resection include: periapical periodontitis of the tooth with root superstructure, fracture of the apical part of the root, entrapment of a dental instrument in the apical part of the root, and a cyst in the periapical area. An alternative...

Cheilitis

Marcel Riznič, Martina Kyjovská-Čičváková, Eugen Ďurovič, Jozef Minčík

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):35-39 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.019

The authors of this review paper present possible classifications of cheilitis according to Borovský, Mashkillason, Danilevský and colleagues. They provide a clinical division according to known aetiological characteristics. In accordance with these classifications, they characterize the basic clinical knowledge of traumatic cheilitis, meteorological cheilitis and actinic cheilitis.

Jana Kluknavská, Silvia Timková, Eugen Ďurovič, Jozef Minčík

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):40-46 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.020

Ulcerative lesions and lesions of traumatic origin form an individual group. Their diagnosis can be quite difficult, if the anamnestic data are insufficient. The causes of these traumatic lesions may be varied. They can include traumatization by biting, dentures or mechanical irritation. In the aetiology of traumatic lesions in the oral cavity, chemical influences, electrical current and temperature changes can be applied. This article discusses individual cases caused by traumatization, their aetiology, clinical picture and also treatment. It is important to define the individual lesions possibly found in patients and to differentiate them diagnostically...

Recurrent chronic ulcerations of oral mucous membranes

Jana Kluknavská, Silvia Timková, Eugen Ďurovič, Jozef Minčík

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):47-51 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.021

Recurrent ulcerations of oral mucous membranes may be limiting for patients by their frequent recurrence, but also by the pain and other subjective complaints that accompany these diseases. Hamed Mortazavi, Yaser Safi, and Maryam Baharvand have developed a scheme that helps to differentiate individual states and facilitate diagnosis of recurrent chronic ulcerations. In this article, some ulcerative conditions in the oral cavity are briefly defined. Stomatitis aphtosa recidivans and stomatitis herpetica recidivans occur relatively often. In addition, erythema multiforme, the aetiology of which is multiform and similarly manifested by repeated ulcerations,...

Martina Kyjovská Čičváková, Marcel Riznič, Eugen Ďurovič

Stomatológ 2019, 29(2):52-55 | DOI: 10.69658/sto.2019.022

Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG) is a painful infection of the gingiva. Its primary symptoms are acute pain, bleeding of gingiva and significant halitosis (foetor ex ore). The diagnosis is based on clinical findings and complete treatment is achieved in combination of local debridement of the necrotic lesion and mouth rinsing. This condition is improved by oral hygiene and supportive therapy through vitamins, analgesics and targeted antibiotic treatment. Nowadays ANUG occurs most frequently in smokers and patients with weakened immunity exposed to excessive stress. Other risk factors are nutritional deprivation, state of immunodeficiency,...

The continuous development of new drugs and drug forms has undoubtedly a positive role in the treatment of various diseases. However, all drugs have certain adverse or side effects that can affect various systems and also may occur in the oral cavity. These manifestation can be classified according to their localization as periodontium or mucosa affliction in the oral cavity. In the article the authors describe possible manifestations of drugs in the oral cavity as well as the drugs that can cause these changes. Fibrovascular hyperplasia and focal epithelial hyperplasia are also briefly described. Proper classification of drug-induced conditions in...
